The last few weeks have been filled with so many beautiful colors at the Laundry Basket Quilts Studio!

I am on the edge of my seat with this new Century Solids bundle.

If you haven’t heard about it, it’s the most beautiful collection of solids from Andover. There are 100 pieces – YES, that means 100 of the most beautiful colors to choose from.

I wanted to have a little piece of every one of them in my stash, so Fat Eighths seemed to be the perfect size!

I couldn’t help myself from scooping up all the colors to enjoy!

As I started cutting and playing, there were so many quilts that I could imagine making.

But the one I couldn’t resist is the Alaska in rainbow colors!

And I wonder what might be blooming next in our quilting garden, watch our next YouTube Video to find out!

Hello everyone!

Welcome back to the Jelly Snowflake Mystery Quilt from Fat Quarter Shop. You have been such busy bees working hard on your quilt blocks, and now its time to put them all together!

I would love to invite you on a special little journey.

There may be some unexpected surprises waiting for you…

Grab your friends and lets sit down to add a finishing touch to your project.

Your Jelly Snowflake quilt looks like this right now, but if you’d like it a bit bigger it needs “Just Borders”!

Let’s start by adding a light inner border, 1-1/2″ x 50-1/2″ to the sides and 1-1/2″ x 52-1/2″ to the top and bottom of the quilt. This will give us a nice light accent.

Next, using your Block 2 pattern directions, make an additional 24 blocks 8-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ unfinished size. To make the star look a little different, I used a light fabric for the center

(1 charm pack is enough for the entire border). For points, I used the remaining scraps from my jelly roll!

Let’s create sashings!

They are made from 2 blue background rectangles, 2-1/2″ x 3-1/2″, and 1 light square 2-1/2″ x 2-1/2″. You will be making 24 of them and they will be 2-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ unfinished size.

Arrange your star blocks and sashing strips alternating around your quilt, then sew these units into side borders and top and bottom borders (as shown below).

Once completed, press your borders, then sew them to the center of the quilt.

Start with the sides, then adding the top and bottom borders.

Add a small blue 1-1/2″ x 68-1/2″ border to the side of the quilt and 1-1/2″ x 70-1/2″ to the top and bottom.

Finish by pressing your quilt. Completed quilt measurement is 70-1/2″ x 70-1/2″

Your quilt has blossomed so beautifully!

It’s time to reward yourself with an awesome treat!

If you love this border, you will love our new pattern releasing in September called “Just Borders”. This new pattern focuses on borders made from pre-cuts

like Jelly Rolls, Charm Packs, and Layer Cakes.

Below is a sneak peak of some of the other options that would work well with this quilt.

Like this simple nine patch...

...or this piano key. There are so many nice borders for you to choose from.

I am so thankful you took this ride with me. I can’t wait to see you on the next adventure we go on!

Maybe it will be our “Aspen” snowflake

I can’t believe that we are almost done with our Jelly Snowflake Mystery Quilt from Fat Quarter Shop. Block 4 is so much fun to make – click here for block directions, but I sure am excited for those finishing pieces, I have some special surprises for you!

My blocks are stacking up so nicely. My advice when making Block 4, is to remember to pin, pin, pin! This will ensure that all of your strips are perfectly aligned together.

Our Block 4s fit so beautifully in the quilt.

Not to give it all away, but this Signature Style Charm Pack may be apart of our special surprise that

I have prepared for you. Keep working on your blocks. We will see you next week!
