Can't let you end the year without one final block!


Welcome back to our Quilt Along in celebration of my birthday this year.

We have been posting here on our blog every week with 1 new 6" finished quilt block design!

What a celebration it has been!



You can start making this quilt with the recommended bundles below or using scraps from your stash. A Fat Quarter Bundle and Fat Eighth Bundle are great starting points.

This would be a perfect time to pull fabrics from your stash and mix and match with our bundles to make this quilt your very own. Another great option, is your beautiful fabrics from our Laundry Basket Quilts Fabric Club stash!


Let's get started with our last block!


Birthday Quilt Fabric Requirements

Blocks: Cocoa Blue Fat Quarter Bundle

Background: 2½ yards Border: 2 yards

Binding: 1 yard


I'm sew excited to begin our last block - let's jump right in!

Please make sure you have 1/4" around all your units and blocks. Do not trim your points.


Birthday Bonus Block 3

Block Cutting

16-light HSTs cut from 8 squares 1â…ž"

4-dark QSTs cut from 1 square 3¼"

8-medium HSTs cut from 4 squares 1â…ž"

4-light squares 1½"

4-medium squares 1½"

4-medium light rectangles 2½" x 1½"

1-dark center square 2½"

To make Flying Geese, arrange 1 dark 3¼" QST and 2 light 1⅞" HSTs.

Sew together and press. Make 4 matching flying geese.

Flying Geese size: 1½" x 2½" unfinished


Note from Edyta: For this project, I'm going to try something different

and press all my seams open if I can.

Arrange one Flying Geese unit with 1 medium light rectangle 2½" x 1½"

Sew together and press. Make 4.

Unit size: 2½" x 2½" unfinished

To make HST Units, combine 1 medium and 1 light 1â…ž" HST.

Sew HSTs together and press. Make 8.

HST Unit size: 1½" x 1½" unfinished

Arrange 2 HST units, 1 light 1½" square, and 1 medium 1½" square as shown above.

Sew into rows.

Sew rows together and press. Make 4.

Corner Unit size: 2½" x 2½" unfinished

Arrange all units around 2½" center square as shown above.

Sew into rows. Sew rows together.

Finished Block Size: 6" x 6"

Block Cutting

4-light HSTs cut from 2 squares 1â…ž"

1-dark square 1⅞"

4-light QSTs cut from 1 square 3¼" (same light fabric as HSTs above) 4-light QSTs cut from 1 square 3¼"

8-dark QSTs cut from 2 squares 3¼"

4-medium light corner squares 2½"

To make the center Square in a Square, start with 4 light 1â…ž" HSTs and 1 dark 1â…ž" center square.

Combine HSTs with center square.

To make QST Units, combine both light 3¼" QSTs with 2 dark 3¼" QSTs as shown above.

QST Unit size: 2½" x 2½" unfinished

Arrange 4 Corner 2½" squares, 4 QST Units around the center Square in a Square Unit.

Sew into rows. Sew rows together.

Birthday Block 54

Block Cutting

4- squares 3½" in variety of lights

4- semi-circles in various blues using the template below

Prepare 4 dark semi-circles (PDF Semi-Circle Template) and 4 light 3½" background squares.

Following your favorite appliqué directions, appliqué one semi-circle to each background square. Make 4. Get creative and have fun pairing your fabric colors and backgrounds!

Arrange the four corner squares using the image above as a guide.

Sew into rows. Sew rows together.


ree

Finish with adding some beautiful stitches to hold your pieces in place

with the technique of your choice.


Finished Block Size: 6" x 6"


Press your block and enjoy!
