Welcome back everyone! If you are just joining us, we are so happy to have you! (Click here to start with Block 1!)

With the first row of our neighborhood down, it’s time to move on to the next street!

HOUSE 6

We will begin by cutting House 6. Follow the directions on page 10 of the Winter Village Pattern and lay out all your pieces for your sixth house.

This house is made from 3 units. I’m going to show you how to make 1 unit:

We will assemble our unit by sewing the top and bottom blue rectangles to the light window square. Pin and sew the blue side rectangles to complete the unit.

Complete the remaining 2 units of the house following the same steps as above, and finish by sewing all 3 units together into one row. Now add the square roof and press.

To make the chimneys for all 3 units, sew together light rectangles and square in a row.

Complete your block by sewing the house row, chimney row and sky together and press. Pin and sew on side sashing to finish House 6.

HOUSE 7

We will now cut House 7. Follow the directions on page 11 of the Winter Village Pattern and lay out all of your pieces for the seventh house.

Begin by sewing light windows and door with blue rectangles.

Please visit our YouTube channel for additional tips on pinning and matching the windows.

Add roof and side sashing to complete House 7.

HOUSE 8

We will now cut House 8. Follow the directions on page 12 of the Winter Village Pattern and lay out all of your pieces for the eighth house.

Begin by sewing light and blue HST unit to make a roof. Then sew blue rectangles to the top and bottom of light window and sew blue rectangles on each side.

Pin and sew, sky rectangle, HST roof unit, and house unit together. Add side sashing and press to complete House 8.

Please make sure you visit our YouTube channel for more tips and tricks.

To begin, gather all of your supplies: Winter Village pattern, fabric (we have kits!), rotaryruler

fabric pencilpinsscissors, and Aurifil thread 2310 and lets quilt together!

HOUSE 4

We will begin by cutting House 4. Follow the directions on page 7 of the Winter Village Pattern and lay out all your pieces for your fourth house.

Position the light square, with your roof rectangle right sides together. Mark diagonal line and stitch following this line.

Trim and press, pushing seam allowance towards dark.

Next, position the second light background square, right sides together, with roof unit. Draw a diagonal line and sew along the line. Trim to the right, a 1/4″ away from it.

Press open, this time pushing seam allowance towards the light. Your roof unit should be 4″ x 7-1/2″, unfinished size.

Next, we will assemble our house by sewing top and bottom blue squares to the light windows rectangles. Pin and sew rectangles together to complete.

Add rectangles in between window rows.

Edyta’s Tip: To perfectly match my rows, I lightly crease the fabric first by folding to indicate where my windows begin.

Match the crease with the window and pin.

Sew and press.

Sew all units together and finish House 4 by adding the side sashing.

HOUSE 5

We will now cut House 5. Follow the directions on page 8 of the Winter Village Pattern and lay out all of your pieces for the fifth house, that is made from 3 Units.

Position your light square with your roof rectangle, right sides together. Mark diagonal line and stitch following this line.

Trim and press, pushing seam allowance towards dark.

Next, position the light background square, right sides together, with roof unit. Draw a diagonal line and sew along the line. Trim to the right, a 1/4″ away from it.

Press open, this time pushing seam allowance towards the light. Your roof unit should be 2-1/2″ x 4-1/2″, unfinished size.

Next, we will assemble our house by sewing the top and bottom blue rectangles to the light window square and light rectangle door. Pin and sew the blue side rectangles to complete the house.

Edyta’s Tip: Be aware of your fabric pattern! Start by first laying out your fabric pieces and pay attention to the direction of your print.

Come quilt with me! I can’t even explain how excited I am to build this village with you! I imagine all my friends

living in all those cute little houses and we are all quilting neighbors!

This event is FREE for everyone! You can join at any point along the way and feel free to bring friends!

We will be sewing this beautiful Winter Village quilt over the next 8 weeks. Each week, we are going to create a section of the quilt, we will call each section a block. Our first Block has 3 houses.

Please make sure you visit our YouTube channel for more tips and tricks.

To begin, gather all of your supplies: Winter Village pattern, fabric (we have kits!), rotary, ruler,

fabric pencil, pins, scissors, and Aurifil thread 2310 and lets quilt together!

HOUSE 1

We begin begin by cutting House 1. Follow the directions on page 3 of the Winter Village Pattern and lay out all your pieces for your first house.

Start by sewing 2 light rectangles with 1 blue rectangle to create a chimney square. This unit should be 3-1/2″ x 3-1/2″ unfinished.

Position your chimney square horizontal with your roof rectangle right sides together.

Mark diagonal line. Stitch following this line.

Trim and press, pushing seam allowance towards dark.

Next, position light, background square, light sides together, with roof unit. Draw a diagonal line.

Sew along the line. Trim to the right a 1/4″ away from it.

Press open, this time pushing seam allowance towards the light. Your roof unit should be 3-1/2″ x 6-1/2″ unfinished size.

Next, we will assemble our house by sewing top and bottom blue rectangles to the light window square. Pin and sew side rectangles to complete the house.

Edyta’s Tip: Be aware of your fabric pattern! Start first by laying out your fabric pieces and pay attention to the direction of your print.

Push seam allowance towards dark fabric.

Sew all units together; house, roof, sky, and a side sashing.

Congratulations! You have just built your first house!

HOUSE 2

We will now cut House 2. Follow the directions on page 4. Lay out all your pieces for your second house.

We begin by making a Quarter Square Triangle (QST) unit.

Pin and sew two triangle sets.

Press open, pushing seam allowance to the right.

Edyta’s Tip: I like to use my pressing tool. It prevents the edges from stretching for a perfect QST unit.

Place the two units, right sides together. Pin in the center as shown above and sew.

Press open and trim to a 4-1/2″ x 4-1/2″ QST unit.

Sew the top rectangle and the side rectangles to the QST unit.

Press seam allowances towards outside and trim.

Now, lets do the windows. Start by sewing top and bottom rectangles to the window squares.

Sew units together as shown above. Push seam allowances away from the windows and trim.

Sew sky, roof, and house units together. Push seam allowance towards the roof.

Pin and sew on side sashing. Press to complete your second house.

HOUSE 3

We begin by cutting pieces for House 3. Follow the directions on page 5. Lay out all pieces for your third house.

Beginning with the walls, sew top and bottom rectangles to the window squares.

Add rectangles in between window rows.

Edyta’s Tip: To perfectly match my rows, I lightly crease the fabric first by folding to indicate where my windows begin.

Match the crease with the window…

…and pin.

Sew and press.

Assemble to roof and chimney as shown above. Sew all units together and finish House 3 by adding the side sashing.

Congratulations! You just finished your first block!

I am looking forward to next week when we will be building more houses for our winter village!

Before I let you go – I have a “little” surprise for you! Did you ever want to make this quilt smaller but just didn’t know where to start? Please make sure you go to our YouTube channel and watch our video for the Winter Village Quilt Along. I have included information for how to make your houses half the size.

Look at how cute they are!

You can make them with your leftover fabrics.

If you cannot figure out the recipe for the minis- do not worry! I will be posting the recipes for cutting your minis every following Wednesday. I have a feeling you will be making both quilt sizes 😁

Happy Quilting! Edyta
