HOUSE 15

Start by cutting House 15. Follow the directions on page 22 of the Winter Village Pattern and lay out all your pieces for the fifteenth house.

Using your fabric pencil and ruler to make the roof unit, draw a diagonal line on both of the light, sky squares. Sew on the line, then trim 1/4″ away from the line. Next, press your unit to create roof.

Sew the top, middle, and bottom blue rectangles to the light window squares. Pin and sew on the long, blue rectangles to each side of the window strip. Sew all rows together and press.

Complete your house by sewing together roof and wall units. Then pin and sew on side sashing, and press to finish.

HOUSE 16

Now cut your pieces for House 16. Follow the directions on page 23 of the Winter Village Pattern and lay out all your pieces for the sixteenth house. I love this one! It’s so simple and modern.

Starting with your wall units, sew the top, middle, and bottom blue rectangles to the light door and window cuts as shown above.

Pin and sew on roof before adding the light side sashing and press.

HOUSE 17

Now cut your pieces for House 17. Follow the directions on page 24 of the  Winter Village Pattern and lay out all your pieces for the seventeenth house.

For your wall units, sew the top, middle, and bottom blue rectangles and squares to the light door and window cuts. Pin and sew on the long, blue rectangles, then sew all together and press. For the roof unit, use your fabric pencil and ruler to draw a diagonal line on both of the light, sky squares. Sew on the line, then trim 1/4″ away from the line. Next, press your Flying Geese unit open.

Sew all units together then press to complete House 17. There is no side sashing for this one.

I am so proud of you all – we just finished another row!

Now take your time with these blocks and ENJOY YOURSELF! Everybody deserves some “me” time – make this yours.

Looking forward to seeing you all Wednesday for our Mini Recipes!

Edyta’s Tip: Quick and easy ways to customize your quilts without changing the pattern recipes are by making small changes! Try switching which side your chimney is positioned on a roof, or use your own colorful scraps to customize windows and doorways — get creative, have fun individualizing your village!

We only have 3 more blocks to go — can you believe it? With many of your houses built, how is everyone feeling? I love hearing about everyone’s quilting journey as we all quilt along together.

To begin, gather all of your supplies: Winter Village pattern, fabric (we have kits!), rotary, ruler, fabric pencil, pins, scissors, and Aurifil thread 2310 and lets quilt together!

We will be working on Block 4 this week.

HOUSE 9

We will begin by cutting House 9. Follow the directions on page 14 of the Winter Village Pattern and lay out all your pieces for the ninth house.

To make the barn door, arrange 4 Quarter Square Triangles as above. Pin and sew 2 units together before pinning and sewing together again to complete the QST door unit and press.

Sew blue rectangles to top and right side of QST door unit and set aside.

For the wall unit, sew the top and bottom blue rectangles to the light window squares. Now, pin and sew the remaining side blue rectangles to complete walls.

Pin, sew, and press one large, light and one large, blue rectangle together to make the roof and sky.

Arrange all units to form the house. Pin and sew the wall and barn units together before pinning and sewing on the roof.

Finally, sew on side sashing before pressing to complete House 9.

HOUSE 10

We will begin by cutting House 10. Follow the directions on page 15 of the Winter Village Pattern and lay out all your pieces for the tenth house.

Begin by pinning and sewing the top and bottom blue rectangles to the light window squares. Then, pin and sew the remaining side blue rectangles to complete the walls and press. Set aside.

Using your fabric pencil and ruler to make the roof unit, draw a diagonal line on both of the light,

sky squares. Sew on the line, then trim 1/4″ away from the line. Next, press your Flying Geese unit open to create roof. Finish by adding the light rectangle for the sky.

Sew all units together, including side sashing as shown above, then press.

HOUSE 11

We will begin by cutting House 11. Follow the directions on page 16 of the Winter Village Pattern and lay out all your pieces for the eleventh house.

Begin by pinning and sewing the top and bottom blue rectangles to the light window square.

Then, pin and sew the remaining side blue rectangles to complete the walls and press.

For the chimney unit, pin, sew, and press two light rectangles with one blue, middle rectangle.

Edyta’s Tip: Pay attention to your quarter-inch seam allowance! 🙂

Lay out your chimney unit, right sides together, with your rectangle roof. Then, using your fabric pencil and ruler, mark your chimney unit with a diagonal line. Sew on line, trim 1/4″ away and press open. Now, do the same thing to the light, sky square.

Finally, sew all units together starting with the sky, the roof, and then house. Finish by pressing– there’s no side sashing for this house.

Look at this charming, community library!

I know we can’t all get together much these days, but we can still connect through crafting, reading, quilting and inspiring each other! 😀
