Thank you for stopping by, I am so happy to quilt with you again, let’s jump right into making our Super Bloom – Block 2!

If you’re cutting you fabrics, please follow cutting directions from your Super Bloom Pattern. If you have one of our Pre-Cut kits you’re ready set go!

I love opening the pre-cut pieces, they are so easy to work with and really speed the process up!

Start by joining two pink QST and two light QST to make a Quarter Square Triangle (QST) Unit 1.

I use the “chain sewing” technique to sew all triangles for the block. I keep the pink fabrics on the bottom and the light fabric on top when making these QST Units. Note: I use a scant 1/4″ seam allowance when sewing my QSTs, this will allow me to trim them later if needed.

Cut the treads holding the string of triangles together, open triangles, and press your seam allowance toward the pink. Be careful not to stretch the bias edge when pressing.

I like to use my hand seam pressing tool for this step.

Take two units and arrange them as shown above.

Place them right sides together, nest the center seam and pin.

Sew triangle units together, again using a scant 1/4″ seam allowance.

Gently open seam allowance on center back, press and trim using your ruler to a 2-1/2″ x 2-1/2″ square if necessary.

Join two pink QST, one light QST, and one blue QST to make QST Unit 2

Press and Trim your QST Unit 2.

Arrange 4 light squares, 1 blue square, and 4 QST units, (2 QST Unit 1, 2 QST Unit 2) as shown.

Sew into rows using a 1/4″ seam allowance. Sew rows together and press your Ohio Star Unit A. Repeat steps to make 2 Units.

I love using my 6-1/2″ Creative Grids ruler and OLFA Spinning Mat to trim these blocks if necessary.

Arrange 3 light squares, 1 red square, 1 blue square, and 4 QST units (2 QST Unit 1, 2 QST Unit 2) as shown.

Sew into rows using a 1/4″ seam allowance. Sew rows together and press your Ohio Star Unit 2. Repeat steps to make 2 Units.

Those little Ohio Star Units are so cute, time to put them together!

Arrange your 4 Ohio Star Units as shown above. Sew into rows using a 1/4″ seam allowance. Sew rows together and press your Super Bloom Block 2. Finally square your block to 12-1/2″ x 12-1/2″.

I can’t believe how fast time is flying by!

I still remember when I visited Antelope Valley last year and experienced the magic of the Super Bloom for the first time.

Those little flowers cover the rolling hills of California with a beautiful orange blanket.

They remind me in some way of the blooms on my mother’s Polish pottery.

I enjoy making so many fun projects from this collection. One of my favorite is the Super Bloom Block of the Month (BOM). I as so excited to be making this project with you for the next few months!

Let’s get started on the first block.

Following the cutting directions in the pattern, you can prepare all the pieces needed for Block 1.

Block 1 is so cute! I always start by laying out all my pieces.

We will be completing this block in units.

Let’s begin with the Flying Geese Unit made from 2 pink Half Square Triangles (HST) and 1 light Quarter Square Triangle (QST).

Place pink HST triangle, right sides together, with the light QST triangle. Then sew using a quarter inch seam allowance.

Repeat with the other pink HST.

Press and trim – make 4.

Next select 2 pink QST and 2 light QST.

Position 1 light and 1 pink QST, right sides together, then sew. I like to practice my chain sewing when doing those!

Push seam allowances toward pink.

Take two…

…and place them right sides together. Lock the seam in the middle, pin, then sew!

Once completed, gently open the seam allowance in the center and press.

Using your Creative Grids ruler, square your unit to the correct measurements available in the pattern – make 4.

Select 1 Flying Geese unit and 1 QST unit.

Sew them together to complete the center unit. Push the seam allowance toward the QST. Repeat above steps to make 4.

Next, we will be assembling the corner units. Select your pieces as shown.

Position light HST, right sides together, with a blue QST as shown above.

Sew and push seam allowances toward blue.

Place the completed unit, right sides together, with the light square. Sew and press seam allowance toward the square.

Repeat with the second unit.

When completed, place the remaining large blue HST, right sides together, on the unit and sew with a quarter inch seam allowance. Remember to center it up and pin. Visit our YouTube channel for more details.

Press and square unit using your Creative Grids ruler and Rotary Cutter. Repeat above steps to make 4.

Arrange 4 center units,4 corner units, and 1 center square. Sew into rows and sew rows together.

I am so proud of you! You have just completed your first block.

I can’t wait to do another block from this “Super Bloom” quilt with you next month!

Happy Quilting, Edyta
