BLOG

I have discovered so many beautiful things in California.

I can’t help but see their impact and reflection in my designs – especially in latest in my fabric collection Sequoia that will be released to quilt shops in March.

There are some cute little projects that you can make with this fabric collection, like the “Patchwork Basket” that has a bit of piecing and applique. We also have laser-cut Fabric Silhouettes for this fun project.

I’m pretty sure you will be selecting some of your favorite pieces from this collection. Those blacks and greens seem to be some of my favorites this time of year.

There is a free pattern with this group called “Kings Valley” and it is perfect to use 2-1/2″ strips. I have included a link here for you!

I’m sure you could enjoy all of the pieces of Sequoia in this free pattern.

Or maybe you have your heart set on this “Flower Box” quilt that bursts with color and blooms?

One of my personal favorites is “Mountain Top”,  simply because it gave me a chance to mix all my scraps from Crystal Farms and Sequoia in one – I love scrappy quilts!

There are so many beautiful colors and cute little images throughout this collection.

Would you like to see it up close? Leave us a sweet comment for a chance to WIN a fat quarter bundle of the full collection before it comes out in March!

Happy Quilting, Edyta

Hello and welcome to Patches of Blues quilt along!

My name is Edyta Sitar, the Quilter behind Laundry Basket Quilts, and I look forward to quilting with you. I have made many quilts but this is my first quilt along, so please be patient with me. 🙂

This is the quilt that we will be making! It is a sampler from the patterns in our new book Patches of Blue. I will be posting a new blog on the 15th of every month showcasing a new section of the quilt. This quilt is made with our new collection of fabric called Something Blue – unfortunately this fabric will not be available until June 2018 so we will be making our quilts with some of my previous fabric collections.

All that you need is; the Patches of Blue book for cutting directions, fabrics, and your basic sewing supplies.  With every block, I am hoping to share some fun tips and ideas with you.

Let’s start by choosing fabrics! You will need a nice selection of blues and lights. Before I start a quilt, I pick a stash (a kit) for myself – a basket full of dark, medium, and light colored blues as well as a group of lights with little blue accents for my backgrounds.

If you’re a bit short on blue fabrics, visit your local quilt shop to grab some yardage, or we have some nice Winter Blues and Winter Lights fabric bundles on our website to get you started.

Now, from that basket, we will pick 6 blues and 6 lights in 10″ squares for our first block. Try to remember my rule of 5 when choosing fabrics.

“Rule of 5; big print, medium print, small print, stripes, and polka dots”.

I not only pay attention to the shades of color but also to the print that is on the fabric, we also want to mix batiks and prints into our basket to give extra contrast to our quilt.

This will be our stash (kit) that we will be picking fabric from for all of our blocks. It is also good to repeat some of the same fabrics through all blocks so they have similar DNA and look like they belong together when put into the final quilt.

If your fabrics are ready, you can take a little break before we start on January 15. Don’t forget to share your pictures with me on Instagram and Facebook with the hashtag #patchesofblue.

Happy Quilting and I can’t wait to quilt-along with you! Edyta

Nervous as a rabbit, I approached the steps to the CBS studio in Denver Colorado,

to tape another episode of The Quilt Show with Alex Anderson and Ricky Tim!

The lights, cameras, and live audience, sure adds excitement to the event.

Maybe standing next to Alex, one of my favorite quilters, was the cause for my enjoyment!

Or maybe I was just thrilled because I brought “Patchwork Barn” with me – the new 2018 Quilt Show BOM to share with you!

I just LOVE this quilt! I worked on it all summer.

It has a beautiful selection of 6 inch blocks and appliques side by side.

With the medallion-like center barn block, this original design is a true playground for any level quilter.

The stunning “Patchwork Barn” quilt is perfect to decorate your home for any season.

If you would like to join, simply click the link above to visit The Quilt Show for more details.

And just in case “blue” is not your thing –  this quilt looks wonderful in any color option! It is shown above using our “Crystal Farm” fabric collection.

Which color do you think you’d like to use in this quilt?

Happy Quilting! Edyta
