I am quilting using the Common Bride Fabric Kit and adding some scraps from my stash.

You can use this same kit or this is a perfect time to select some beauties from you own stash and enjoy all your fabrics to make this design your own!


Who's ready to start?


Refer to your Common Bride pattern for cutting measurements.

Basket Blocks

(Arrows show assembly, not seam pressing)

Select 12 pre-sewn HST units for 4 baskets. Combine 3 dark half-square triangles and 3 HST units in rows as shown. Press seams in opposite directions.

Add 1 scrappy light triangle.


ree

Sew 2 dark triangles and 2 light rectangles as shown.

Press seam away from the rectangle.

 Add 1 scrappy light triangle.

ree

Make 4 baskets.

ree

Add the 4 basket blocks and the background strips to the star as shown.

ree

Press seams away from the baskets and star.

This week we will be making our Feathered Star Center block!

Please don't forget to refer back to your Common Bride pattern for cutting measurements.

Feathered Star Block

Select 32 pre-sewn HST. Combine 3 scrappy HSTs.

Make 4.

Combine 3 scrappy HSTs. Add 1 light triangle.

Make 4.

Sew units to 1 scrappy light QST. Remember to stop sewing before the last seam allowance and leave an opening to set remaining pieces in place later in assembly.

Add 2 scrappy darks triangles.

Diamonds: Cut 8 scrappy diamonds using Feathered Star Template.

Combine a diamond, 1 scrappy light triangle, 1 half-square triangle and 1 scrappy dark square.

Press as shown. Make 4.

Combine a diamond, 1 light triangle and 1 half-square triangle. Press as shown. Make 4.

Combine 1 light and the previous units together.

Make 4.

Follow the diagram below to complete your block.

Once side units are sewn together, finish sewing where you had stopped.

ree

Complete your block as shown. Follow arrows for pressing in the star,

background pieces press toward outside.

Finally trim your block to 22¼" x 22¼".

Keep at least ¼" away from the diamond points when trimming.

Eight Point Stars - Block Finishing

It's time to add a ring of diamonds around the star.


Position your diamond. Sew to the marked pivot point as shown. Stop and backstitch.


Pivot the block, align the next side.

Make sure that you are sewing only these two layers together.


Sew from pivot point to next small dot and backstitch.

From the back, push the seam allowance towards the diamond.

Keep going to add all eight diamonds.

Add 4 corner triangles. Press away from the blocks center.

Make 24– Eight Point Stars with light triangles and 1– Eight Point Star with dark triangles for the center of the quilt.

Add 4 Cornerstones and 4 Sashings to one Eight Point Star with dark triangles.

This will be your quilt center block.
