Create your own sunshine!


We are having SEW much fun with this Birthday Mystery Block Quilt Along! I will keep on posting here on our blog every week with at least 1 new 6" finished quilt block design.

I am sew thankful to all of you that want to join me on this Birthday Quilt Along.



You can start making this quilt with the recommended bundles below or using scraps from your stash. A Fat Quarter Bundle and Fat Eighth Bundle are great starting points.

This would be a perfect time to pull fabrics from your stash and mix and match with our bundles to make this quilt your very own.

I will be making my blocks using a Cocoa Blue Fat Quarter Bundle and the Birthday Bundle 2024 to create this Birthday quilt! There may be some sprinkles of a few favorites from my blue collections.


This project is available for anyone to join in! It will be 55 blocks in 52 weeks. Every Tuesday we will be making a new block(s), so don't forget to Sign Up for our Newsletters and visit our blog each week to quilt along!


At the end of the year I will be providing a variety of layouts for your beautiful 6" blocks.

Background: 2½ yards Border: 2 yards

Binding: 1 yard

Birthday Block 20

Block Cutting

4-medium HSTs cut from 2 squares 2â…ž"

4-light HSTs cut from 2 squares 2â…ž"

1-dark square 1â…ž"

12-light HSTs cut from 6 squares 1â…ž"

8-light HSTs cut from 4 squares 1â…ž"

4-dark QSTs cut from 1 square 3¼"

4-dark QSTs cut from 1 square 3¼"

To make the center unit, combine 4 light 1â…ž" HSTs and 1 dark 1â…ž" square.

Sew HSTs to center square.

Sew and press. Make 1.

Center Unit size: 2½" x 2½" unfinished


Note from Edyta: For this project, I'm going to try something different

and press all my seams open if i can.

For the next flying geese units, combine 2 light 1⅞" HSTs and 1 dark 3¼" QSTs,

then combine 2 light 1⅞" HSTs and 1 dark 3¼" QSTs.

Sew and press as shown above.

Sew together and press. Make 1.

Unit size: 2½" x 2½" unfinished

To make HST units, combine 1 light 2â…ž" HST and 1 dark 2â…ž" HST.

Sew together and press. Make 4.

HST Unit size: 2½" x 2½" unfinished

To make a nine patch, use 4 light 1⅛" x 1¼" rectangles,

4 medium 1⅛" squares, and 1 dark 1¼" center square.

To make the house units, arrange 2 medium 2" x 3½" rectangles, 1 light 1½" x 3½" rectangle, 1 medium 1½" x 4½" rectangle, and 1 medium 2½" x 4½" rectangle.

Sew together the 2 medium 2" x 3½" rectangles and 1 light 1½" x 3½" rectangle. Next, sew the medium 1½" x 4½" rectangle to the top and the medium 2½" x 4½" rectangle to the side.

Next, sew the medium 1½" x 4½" rectangle to the top and

the medium 2½" x 4½" rectangle to the side and press the house unit.

House Unit size: 4½" x 6½" unfinished
